Life Lately

I thought I’d take some time to fill you in on what our lives have been like around here lately. To say we have been stressed and overwhelmed with our move and transition to Colorado is an understatement. In the past month we’ve been so busy with so many things all going on at once. We had bathroom vanities painted, new faucets and a countertop installed in the bathrooms. We had photos of the house taken, put the house on the market, had an open house, and we were under contract within one day! Prepping the house for sale was a feat in itself. Aaron and I went around and touched up all of the walls, baseboards and trim to cover any marks that had accumulated over the last 5 years. We were such crabby parents during this time because we were constantly telling our kids not to touch the walls and that they couldn’t make big messes. Keeping a house in ‘show ready’ condition is hard with kids!

So, while all that was going on in Illinois we were also dealing with things in Colorado. Aaron has flown there twice to deal with our inspection and closing on the house. While there he met with numerous contractors to get bids on work that we want done to the house. He has spent countless hours on the phone dealing with so much. All while keeping up with his busy work schedule. With the help from my cousin, we were finally able to get a general contractor and have been making decisions on what needs to be done in the house. We’ve been talking back and forth with a designer to help convert a bedroom into a laundry room, designing a mud room, picking out all the new lighting, trim and baseboards for the house.

We have also been trying to figure out the logistics of the move itself. Luckily, Aaron’s company will send movers and pack up all of our stuff for us. But, since we are doing quite a bit of work to our house we won’t be able to move into it right away. For the first month we will be living in corporate housing which is basically a furnished apartment. After that we still need to figure out where we are going to live for the second month as work will still be going on at our house!

Our movers come next week so we are now in crunch mode. We have sold and given away all the furniture and items that won’t be coming with us. All the artwork and pictures are off of the walls. Now we just need to start packing up the stuff we will need for the next two months. All the rest of our belongings will stay in storage until we actually move into our house.

It feels good to be at this point in the process. We are starting see the light at the end of the tunnel! We are looking forward to being out in Colorado and getting settled into our new day to day lives.
